How to Set Max Width in Wix Studio for Responsive Design

Wix Studio makes it easy to build responsive websites without code. One setting a lot of people miss, though, is the site's max width. Without it, your content stretches across the whole screen on large monitors. Text lines get too long to read comfortably, and images and columns spread out until the design looks empty.

I adjusted this on my own site, and it made a noticeable difference on wide screens. Here's how it works and how to set it.

What Max Width Does

Max width is the widest your content is allowed to get. On screens smaller than that, your site works like normal. On screens wider than it, your content stops growing and stays centered, with margins on the sides.

By default, Wix Studio sets this to 1600 pixels for every section of your site. That's fine for many sites, but if your pages are text-heavy, or your design looks stretched on a big monitor, a smaller width usually looks cleaner.

How to Set It

Open your site in the Wix Studio editor.
Click Site Styles on the left side of the editor.
Click the Max width tab.
Make sure Apply to site is turned on so every page stays consistent.
Enter the width you want in pixels. It has to be larger than 1001 pixels.
Preview your site, then publish.

Choosing a Width

1200 to 1280 pixels: good for blogs and text-heavy sites. Lines of text stay a comfortable length.
1366 to 1440 pixels: a good middle ground for most business sites.
1600 pixels (the default): works for image-heavy sites, portfolios and galleries.

Pick one, then check your site in preview at a few different window sizes. If sections look cramped, go wider. If they look stretched, go narrower.

Letting Some Sections Stay Full Width

Sometimes you want a section to go edge to edge, like a hero image or a colored banner, while the rest of the page stays contained. You can turn max width off for just that section:

Select the section in the editor.
Open the Inspector panel on the right.
Under Responsive behavior, turn off Apply max width.

New sections you add will have max width turned on, so you'll need to do this for each section you want full width.

Why It Matters

Easier to read: shorter lines of text are easier on the eyes.
More professional: your layout looks the way you designed it, even on large monitors.
More consistent: every page lines up the same way.
