When you install Microsoft Office and either create or receive a document that needs printing, you typically expect to print what you see on the screen without any problems. In fact, this works smoothly the vast majority of the time. However, there are those rare instances—about one percent—when you encounter issues and can't figure out why your document won't print. In this guide, we’ll explore some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Adjust the settings in Word

1. Open Microsoft Word and select File from the top menu pane. On the bottom, left hand side of the screen, select Options.

2. In the Word Options dialog box, select Display on the left side pane.

3. Under Printing Options, make sure the following checkboxes are active (have the check mark in it).

     Print drawings created in Word

     Print background colors and images

then select OK.

4. test print and the image should print on your document.

Update your Document

Sometimes, older file types will not print images. Even though it is a word document file, Microsoft has changed their file types a few times since Word has been released. The newest file type is *.docx.

If you're opening a file type that is *.doc or later, that could very well be the issue. To update your document, follow these steps.

1. Open the file that you want to print.

2. Select File then Save As from the left-hand pane.

3. Name the file and make sure the file type below the file name is set to Word Document (*docx) and select Save. You'll receive a pop-up notification saving the following:

Your document will be upgraded to the newest file format.

While you'll get to use the new features in Word, some minor layout changes are possible. If you prefer not to upgrade, press cancel and check the maintain compatibility checkbox

Press OK and the file will save.

4. open the updated file and print.
