Some adobe updates end up breaking the application which will require removing and reinstalling adobe completely. However, after you've successfully removed the application via add/remove in the control panel and attempt to reinstall you run into the following error; AcroRead.msi missing with a dialog box prompted you to navigate to its location.

You're unable to move forward and even trying to re-run the installer results in the same error message. How do you fix this? Below is a simple guide to resolve the missing msi error.

How to Fix the Missing MSI error

The first step is to run the Microsoft Program Troubleshooter tool.

When the program opens, you'll be prompted with either installer error or an uninstaller error. Select the uninstalling from the options and then let the program detect the installed programs.

Select your Adobe Acrobat version (in this example we're using Adobe Acrobat DC) and select next.

You should be prompted with another choice to either try and uninstall it or try other fixes. Select "Yes, try uninstall".

The tool will now try and uninstall Adobe and will provide you with the results. You'll either receive a Green checkmark meaning the application was removed successfully, or a Red X indicating there's an issue (if you receive this, run the uninstaller again and select "No, try other fixes".

After you receive the Green Checkmark re-install Adobe Acrobat Reader and you should be able to reinstall the application without issue.
